New Character Sheets and New Rules!
Howdy campers!
It's been a minute since we've last had an update on the game. We've been running play tests, making some tweaks, and we're finally ready to test out a new system. Well, an old system with new mechanics. That's right, we're tinkering with Mundane Skills again!
This section, by far, has been the most difficult to nail down. However, through great feedback and suggestions from players we're ready to go with something a little more meaty with skills that don't overshadow spells.
You'll now see on the character sheet an area to fill in a die level for your character's Mental, Physical, and Social stats. Under each of those are six empty spots to add in your skills and their appropriate Aptitude. This system works exactly like how you'd cast a spell, with a few caveats. So just as you'd roll your Spell and Path Die vs the Imposition Die, when rolling a mundane skills you'll roll your Human Die and relevant Skill Die (Mental, Physical, Social) vs the Imposition. If you have a skill that's relevant to the task, you can use that skill's Aptitude to lower the Imposition Die.
Here are the caveats. Your Human Die is always capped at a d4 and your Skill Die is capped at a d8 and skill Aptitude capped at 2. By capping these in this way, it continues to put the emphasis on using spells, while also covering those incidental checks that crop up. This also has the benefit of giving Enchanting and Preparations more to do. So while your Human Die, Skill Die, and Aptitudes are capped you can break through those caps with enchanted items and prepared food. For instance, a sharpshooter may only have a d8 when shooting. But with an enchanted rifle they could break that cap and get up to a d12 or have 3 or more dots in Aptitude.
We're excited about this change and a big "Thank you" to Penny LeScroche for the feedback and ideas.
These rules are not implemented into the main document yet, so to get you started:
At character creation the player sets all three skills to a die level of 4. They then are able to add two additional Die Levels to their skills however they wish up to the cap of a d8.
They then choose 6 skills of their choice and assign 10 points of Aptitude to those Skills however they wish, to a max of 2 Aptitude in a single skill.
Thanks for checking out the new character sheets and skill system!
New Character Sheets
We've updated the character sheets with the new layout. They also have a back now for portraits, your gear, and notes. Also, there are now sheets PER TROPE, rather than one generic sheet for all. So be sure to pick up the sheet of which trope you're playing.
2024 Conventions
We've plans this coming year to show up to several local conventions to showcase the game and demo it. Right now we know for certain we'll be at Monsterama! We'll announce more conventions as we know of them.
